Today, we had the first lot of feedback sessions with secretaries and lawyers since starting the new system. For the most part, it went really well. We did have one lawyer this morning announce that he was abusing the system and would continue to do so but he clearly doesn't realise that a) everyone thought he sounded like an arse; and b) he's not going to be allowed to continue to abuse the situation. Other than that though, we had lots of really good suggestions and positive feedback, which was great. Tomorrow, I'm off down to Truro for the day. We have our team meeting in the morning and then there are two more sessions in the afternoon although I'm not going to those - I'm going to clear some jobs from the system instead, I think.
I really want to do some ranting and raving about the England cricket situation but I'm actually feeling exhausted this evening for some reason, and so it's going to have to wait until tomorrow. Oh, but I must just mention that David at work told me yesterday that he thinks the fact that Steve and Fred always have adjoining rooms on tour is (and I quote) "a bit gay". Yes, David. Tell us something we didn't know...
And I must just quickly mention two snippets from Scott Mills which made me laugh out loud the past couple of days. Yesterday, on What's Occuring they were asking people to do kangaroo noises. And also to describe them. One bloke's description of a kangaroo was simply "It's got ears..." And then this morning they were playing a clip of Tim Westwood who was showing people around his walk-in wardrobe. "This is a walk-in wardrobe," he announced. "Understand what that means. It's a wardrobe, that you walk into." Oookayyyy....
And on that daft note, I'm off to my bed for some much needed sleep.
Nighty nighty!

I have had a more than slightly manic morning at work.
First of all, I finished that schools thing for Irene (more about that in a mo) and then Sue called me upstairs to say she had a migraine and needed to go home. She looked so poorly - I felt really sorry for her. After she'd gone, I had to go around and talk to all the unit secretaries (during which time I found out that a fee earner is changing departments from Friday and no-one from PLD has mentioned it to me despite the fact that I need to find them a secretary!), and then I had to check Sue's e-mail and voicemail and divert everything to me. By this time, it was around half 11 and I'd done very little of any substance. I've spent the rest of the morning clearing some urgent correspondence and a few attendance notes, and this afternoon I'm going to do a lease report type thing for David. It'll be the weekend before I know it!
So, this schools thing. Basically, I had a list of school names and their Local Education Authority area, and from that I needed to find out their address and the name of their headteacher. It was a bit of a tedious job, but I didn't mind really. What I did mind, though, was finding the websites of a number of these schools and finding things on there such as misplaced apostrohes and spelling errors. THESE ARE WEBSITES BELONGING TO SCHOOLS!!!! WTF???!!!111eleventyone!!!!
Also pissing me off today is this cricket saga. One minute England has no captain and no coach, then suddenly that's all changed and nothing's been confirmed and now apparently there's a press conference at 2.00pm. Seriously, it's just a joke. What a way to run a sport. I think I'm going to visit them in the small hours and put a bat up their nightdress.
I just finished reading my first book of 2009. It's called Nothing to Fear by Karen Rose and was utterly appalling. The story was quite fast-paced towards the end, but it was so ridiculously far-fetched and predictable. Basically, there's this woman in Chicago who runs a shelter for women fleeing from domestic violence, and this complete psychopath kidnaps a deaf child and then goes there, knowing no questions will be asked about her background. Then there's a guy who's investigating the kid's disappearance and so he somehow susses that she's gone off to Chicago and goes to the bus station there. Where he just happens to bump into the woman who runs the shelter and of course they fall all head over heels in love and... Oh, it was pathetic. Seriously. Even I could do better than that! Second Chance by Jane Green now. That has to be better, surely...?

the weather (again)
Okay, I know I've been going on about the weather a lot lately, but I can't not mention this story.
Padstow Harbour (which is the actual sea) has frozen over!

new blog!
Just in case LJ does go tits up, I'm going to start cross-posting all future entries here.
So if you can't find me on LJ, this is where I'll be.
And I reckon LJ Archive has been very busy today. I've backed my LJ up already. For some reason it only goes back as far as August 2004, but I guess I can live with that. Now to back that document up to the external drive, just in case the PC goes phut as well!
Anyway, hopefully the whole thing will turn out to be a false alarm. Still, it pays to be sensible, I reckon.
